TellTale — Terms of Use

Last updated: 26 July 2026

TellTale is a private sailing-training system operated by the app owner for a small group of sailors and coaches. By using the app, or by allowing a sailor in your care to use it, you accept these terms. They should be read together with the privacy policy, which describes exactly what data is collected.

1. What the service is

The app records sensor data and video during training and sends it to the owner's server, where a coach can review it. It is a training aid — nothing more.

2. Not a safety or navigation device

TellTale must never be relied on for navigation, weather, collision avoidance or any safety-critical purpose. Positions, speeds and courses are approximate and may be delayed, wrong or missing. The sailor is always responsible for their own safety and for keeping a proper lookout — do not stare at the screen while sailing. Voice prompts and beeps are training cues, not instructions to be followed regardless of the situation on the water.

3. Permission to record

The sailor — or, for a minor, their parent or guardian — permits the app to record position, boat motion, video and audio during training, and to store that material on the owner's server for analysis together with a coach. For sailors under 18, a guardian must give this permission before use.

4. How the material may be used

5. Retention and deletion

Live-stream recordings are deleted automatically after 48 hours. Other material is kept for as long as it is useful for training comparison, and at most one season unless the sailor agrees otherwise. A sailor or guardian may request deletion at any time, and the whole session — including video — is then removed from the server. Permission to record may be withdrawn at any time; the app then stops being used for that sailor.

6. Availability — "as is"

The service runs on a single small server operated privately and without any guarantee of availability, correctness or preservation of data. Sessions may be lost, the server may be unavailable, and features may change or disappear without notice. Recorded material is not a backup: keep anything you consider important yourself.

7. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, the owner is not liable for any loss, damage or injury arising from use of the app or the service, including lost training material or decisions taken on the basis of what the app displayed. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

8. Acceptable use

Access keys are personal and must not be shared. Do not attempt to access other sailors' material, and do not use the app to record people who have not agreed to it.

9. Changes and governing law

These terms may be updated; the date at the top then changes and the current version is always available at this address. Swedish law applies.
